A Mayan ancestral approach to Education

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a key initiative of the GuateMaya Alliance, as it significantly enhances the quality of education and promotes leadership in educational innovation. This approach shifts away from traditional teaching methods and adopts a more action-oriented strategy. PBL closely aligns with the historic Maya ancestral learning processes.
Instead of focusing solely on textbook knowledge, students are encouraged to develop essential life skills by engaging with real-world situations in their surroundings. In this context, competencies are viewed as "tools for facing life." Therefore, preparing for life requires a teaching approach that utilizes a variety of complementary strategies and methods, such as simulations, case studies, problem-solving activities, assemblies, projects, and environmental research.
By placing students at the center of the learning process, this methodology helps them acquire skills that are both necessary and applicable in real life.
